Welcome to IFIP Working Group 5.11, Computers and Environment
. This site contains information about our activities and links to related organizations. The working group fosters the development of new methodologies and the improved use of state-of-the-art Information Technology for environmental applications (Enviromatics).
The working group is part of the International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP)
. IFIP is the umbrella organization of computer societies and maintains 14 Technical Committees (TC's) and over 100 working groups (WG's). IFIP traces its roots to the very first major international conference on computers and computing which was held in Paris in 1959 under the auspices of UNESCO. IFIP maintains a formal consultative relationship with UNESCO.
Computers and Environment was first founded in 1992 as WG 5.11 within TC 5, Computer Applications in Technology. It was re-organized in 1999.
One of our most important activities is the organization of the yearly conference ISESS (International Symposium on Environmental Software Systems). Information about last ISESS conference could be found at: www.isess2013.org, the next conference is prepared in 2015. Additionally WG 5.11 collaborate with other related conferences (iEMSs, MODSIM, EnviroInfo).
